My Dream Home (on wheels)

That’s me ^. I’ve lived in two vehicles in the last 4 years. The first was an unconverted Ford e-250 for 8 1/2 months. The one you see above (a ’95 Coachmen Class B), is where I currently live with my wife. It’s been about 6 months now.

Both vans taught me a lot about what I would want in the perfect home on wheels. So I thought I’d share some of my wish-list with the hopes that maybe it’ll benefit someone building their own.

Here goes…

The ultimate home on wheels

Overall concepts

  • All electric systems — no fossil fuels anywhere
  • Recirculating water systems — minimize water consumption
  • Simple — self-explanatory design; you shouldn’t have to think about how your home works, it should just work
  • Natural feel — as many natural or natural feeling surfaces as possible to maximize coziness
  • Easy maintenance and uninstallation of components
  • Ultra-durable — nothing’s flying out of cabinets or falling off walls, and all components of the vehicle itself are built for longevity
  • 100% waterproof
  • Fully stealth — from the outside it’s almost impossible to tell that it’s a home
